1980 Dow's Vintage Port -- (Imported by Berry Bros and Rudd)

Well i can see why Roy has this in his top 12 vintages article on the site's home page.

Really young looking for a 30 year old! deep ruby red with a hint of age on the edge, beautiful Plum, cherry and tobacco with a hint of chocolate and nicely structured tannins. Extremely long finish with the lovely Dow's dryness and a hint of alcohol.

A wonder of a port, on a par (in my opinion), with the Taylor's 1970 that won WOTN in Seattle @ Glenn E's house (for the "2 brit's on tour" off-line) - thanks again Glenn!

Will continue to get better over the next 10 years [notworthy.gif] - 96+ Points (i also paid £39.50 ~ $57 , which was a steal!)

Dom,

Glad you enjoyed the bottle, it is a darn nice one that rarely gets talked about. Then again 1980 as a whole rarely gets talked about except by true Port lovers. I do have one question....Was this a BB&R private label VP that was supplied by Dow's? I ask as 1970 was the last major declared vintage that was shipped abroad in cask and bottled by negotiants outside of Vila Nova de Gaia.

Andy,

Sorry!! I'm meant to write "imported" by Berry Bros & Rudd, i've edited the title accordingly. label is the std Dow's black and white and at the bottom in a grey/gun metal is "Imported By Berry Bros. & Rudd - London"

It was great having you visit, Dom! That bottle was brought by Kris H, btw - he has a knack for bringing stellar bottles to offlines!

My merchant said he'd already sold one bottle to a friend who is a "DOW" fanactic before i bought mine, I'm just hoping he has the rest of the case and these weren't single bottles!
