1802 Acciaioly Terrantez at auction

In addition to Roy's head's up about this "Holy Grail" Madeira (see http://www.fortheloveofport.com/ftlopfo ... php?t=2576), it appears another bottle will be available at the upcoming Acker Merrall auction on May 9th (lot 421). The auction estimate is $800-1500 which, while expensive, is reasonable for this bottle.

It's the fourth to last bottle on the auction list so perhaps the bidding frenzy will be minimal. Good luck and invite me over if you win

Wow... a bottle of Madeira that is almost 175 yrs older than me. Makes me feel very young!

Auctioneers hate people leaving early - so they like to put unusual lots in near the end, that people will stay to see knocked down, even if they don't have any interest in buying them..

FYI... I just saw the auction results... with buyer's commission, it sold for $2151... ouch!

Considering 205 years old and well stored, I don't see that particular bottling be over-priced. Less than $10.50 per year, (or just $.029 per day) buys you the bottle.

Marco, was that really post-fee? i thought it was the hammer price, and then the fees and taxes get levied on top of that?

Yes, it should be. I have sold wines through them in the past and when I looked at the results on the web site, it had the buyers fee included.
