Re: What are you buying?

My local B&M had a Dow's 2000 on sale that I picked up a single of on a whim this week. Before that, I ordered a number of things from the sale at Blicker Pierce Wagner. Not having tasted them at the time, I bought bottles that looked like good values relative to regular prices on the web. In tw...

Re: UPDATED: FTLOP 1st Annual - Final guest and wine list

Great shots, I really enjoy looking at other's photos. What do I have to bribe you with to get you to upload these on PORTraits with captions? I was thinking there should be a gallery/subfolder in the PORTraits just for the gathering. Otherwise we'll be doubling (or more) those that are in t...

Re: 2009 FTLOP Gala - your favorite Douro wine of the weekend?

I don't know if it was our #1 favorite as we weren't taking detailed notes on the Douros, but we really liked the 1991 Barca Velha.

Re: Does someone bought in Fini+Rare Wines?

David, or anyone else in the US: Do they ship to the US? If so, how much does that add to their prices? From their website it appears you can select a non-UK, non-EU destination, but it isn't clear how this works or how much it costs. It looks like they don't take responsibility for the shipping, bu...

Re: hosting site for PDF files

I'd think Roy or one of the people running FTLOP should be able to put them up in the downloads section: http://www.fortheloveofport.com/downloads/index.php It would be nice to have a new category/folder up there. For that matter, I was thinking the same thing about the PORTraits section. We should ...

1937 Kopke Colheita Port

This was served in the first flight at the 1st Annual FTLOP Gala Port Celebration. It was bottled in 2000. Compared to most other Colheitas, this one was a little darker in color, but typical on the spectrum (amber) compared to other Colheitas of similar age. While most Colheitas showed clear and fe...

Re: Super Bowl XLIII

Trivial note from someone that doesn't watch much football: A regular season NBA game has had more worldwide viewers than the Super Bowl. The game featured Yao Ming with the Houston Rockets and Yi Jianlian, then with the Milwaukee Bucks, and was watched by more than 200 million people in China, plus...

Re: The Beginner's Guide to Writing a TN

I was glad to hear this weekend that someone used a points breakdown for different components when tasting wines. For now, however, I'm not even going to assign scores by any method. But I will write some notes.

For me:
1970 - Fonseca
1977 - Taylor
1994 - Fonseca
For my wife:
1970 - not clear in her notes, but I think Taylor
1977 - Fonseca
1994 - Taylor
We do get along, really :D

Under the best of circumstances it was a huge task, and Roy still managed to get it done under trying circumstances. Thanks a...

I will be overwhelmed as it is. I don't know what I'd do at an ostentatious tasting.

I'm with Jeff on this one too. I may be a wimp and spit some. At least I do have sea level and walking to the hotel on my side.

BTW, what's the dress code? My social director who will also be in attendance wants to know.

Aroma: 12 pts; Appearance: 3 pts; Flavor: 20 pts; Mouthfeel: 5pts; Overall Impression: 10 pts Eric, isn't it to complicated to score so many things? Not really. I think working through it like that makes it easier to come up with a final score. The difficulty is when you realize you thought the 32 ...

Got the e-mail and put in an order for 6. Of course I consulted the tasting notes section first :ftlop:
They aren't all great deals, as I found a few cheaper elsewhere and several others in the same ballpark. But there are some great bargains.

1997 Barros Colheita Port

Up in the Colorado Rockies for some snowboarding, I wandered into Frisco Liquors . With about 15' of storefront, my expectations were low and remained that way as I wandered around the front room. Then I noticed the back room, and therein discovered a rack with a surprising array of dessert wines, i...

One of these showed up on eBay, but after reading this note, I decided not to bid as it reached $100.

Al, I also see that one went unsold on winecommune.com, so that might be another source.

Thanks for the note Marc!
