This was served in the first flight at the 1st Annual FTLOP Gala Port Celebration. It was bottled in 2000.
Compared to most other Colheitas, this one was a little darker in color, but typical on the spectrum (amber) compared to other Colheitas of similar age. While most Colheitas showed clear and few had a slight haze, this was even more hazy.
The aroma was very earthy, with a slight hint of honey. I think this turned others off, but I liked it. Then again, I like funky beers too.
In the mouth this had very nice tang and tannin. It was quite viscous and syrupy. "Wow!" from my notes at the time. The flavors were classic (in my mind) raisin, fig, and a little bit of apricot.
This was one of my favorites of the evening, surpassed only by the Roy Hersh/Kopke blend, and the 1955 Burmester Colheita.
Disclaimer: I brought this, so I might be biased. On the other hand, I also brought the 1966 Kopke Colheita which I distinctly did not like.
