NV Quinta do Mourao 60 years old tawny

Post by Rune EG »

Tasted first time during 2014 FTLOP Harvest Tour. My wife and I were completely overwhelmed by this tawny which we understand is 60+ years old.
Brought two bottles home from Portugal. Tasting note is from one of those two.

Bottled 2014. Decanted 1.5 hrs. Interesting, deep dark brown colour with a lighter fading rim. Aroma so complex that it is a challenge to have it all mentioned. Very interesting combination of amongst others ginger, clove, canned fruit, cinnamon, dried apricot and cardamom. Full body. Super elegant at start and continuing all the way. Complex spicy taste that never ends. Powerful and rich in a perfect combination with the elegance. Long fantastic aftertaste, sooooooo complex. Maybe the longest aftertaste I have ever tasted in a tawny/colheita port. My highest score for a tawny/colheita. 98 pts.

As you likely saw in the recent newsletter, I've already opened two of mine. Just stunning.

Remember there were two individuals who literally shed tears when tasting this particular Port. I had one of my two scored at 98 and another at 99, while several guests ... serious wine lovers and Port enthusiasts too, went as high as 100 points, as did a few folks on the Port Harvest Tour.

Simply a remarkable tawny, no question about it. [friends.gif]
