1985 Burmester Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

From day 1 of the 1985 horizontal, 24-25 Jan 2015, Holiday Inn Issaquah. All Ports were tasted blind. Unless otherwise noted, Ports were decanted for ~4 hours the morning of the tasting. The ones that I decanted received ~8 hours of decant overnight and were then stoppered for another ~6 hours until the tasting.

1985 Burmester Vintage Port

Color: Medium dark red. Garnet has some brown/purple tones to it, and this does not. So... just dark red.

Nose: Sweet cherry. I hesitate to use it, but it's almost cough syrup-like. But that sounds bad and this was not at all.

Palate: Very clean, almost crisp. Slightly tannic, but just barely. Decent acidity. The fruits are slightly tart which probably saves this from being terribly simple. Aside from tasting like an old vintage Port, this presents like a light, crisp, white Port.

Score: 86 points. A bit of an odd duck, but pleasant enough.
