2003 Croft VP & Qta Do Noval premier cru (California)

Post by Mike McCune »

2003 Croft Vintage Port - $47.99 !!! - my preorder of 12 bottles @ $62 just turned into 16 bottles - woo hoo!!

Quinta Do Noval is $55 (I just noticed and added to the post).

Premier Cru apparently bought a bunch of Croft at a better price than they planned on.

http://www.premiercru.net is the online location.

(Re: Croft -) This will be (and is) drinkable way before the Taylor/Fonseca duo (? 2030-2050++). This is as good of a buy as the 2000 Fonsecas were for $50 last year (that really riled Roy up but NOT ME). I stocked up then, and would again if I had more storage space and loose 'change'.

Also, I noticed the Graham's is around $60. Some other good young port pricing to be found too (and maybe old?).

NO BRAINER...

Noval is one of my favorite, but I wouldn't say it will be drinkable earlier than Taylor/Fonseca... Their 2003 is just amazingly concentrated!!

And I'll speak up in favour of the Croft 2003 - it is a stunning wine that I tasted against the Taylor and Fonseca and it easily holds its own in that company. I didn't taste blind so I can't really say which ws the best but I have a sneaky suspicion that if I had been tasting blind last October that the Croft might have come out on top.

And the price is extremely good. I just paid $70 per bottle! Its not easy to find since it is so good and generally pretty cheap compared to the big names.
