WTB: 1982 Port in Oxford, UK

Post by Otto Nieminen »

It may be a long shot asking this question here, but I have a good friend born in the vintage 1982 studying in Oxford, UK, and she loves Port - especially VP. I've tasted one good VP 1982, the Ferreira, and would like to get a bottle (or any other good 1982) to her for the upcoming 25th Bday. Unfortunately Finland ran out of the stuff this Christmas and I don't have any in my cellar so I can't send any via post. Anyone know of a shop closeby Oxford who could send a bottle?

TIA,
Otto

Otto,

Try talking to Ancient and Modern Wines. Although they are nowhere near Oxford it would be relatively easy for them to arrange to deliver the wine to Oxford for a cost of roughly £10 (this is how much it has cost me to wrap and post a single bottle of wine within the UK in the past - but you can't insure it against breakage).

I believe that they have the Sandeman 1982 in stock, but I haven't tried this wine so can't comment on how well it has stood the test of time.

If anyone knows about other Brand with good VP for 1982 i'd also be glad to hear, becaus i have the similar problem of looking for them for my 25th Birthday ;).

The ones I found in the net for Germany are:

- Andresen 50€, Sandeman 56€ , Churchill 90€ and Ramos 99€

If anyone knows one of them or severl I'd be glad to hear about how they are. I unfortunately don't know if they're worth what they cost.

I just own one bottle from 1982 till now which i shot on Ebay but which is already damaged a little bit at the capsule. This is why i'm gonna open it this year anyway - but for the future the rest would also be interresting.

Thanks Alex, I'll look into it.

Xavi, sorry, I don't know the ones you mention. It being my vintage also, I would gladly hear recommendations also. :)
