Celebrating 36th anniversary of marriage, we pulled out a special wine that has been cellared for some time.
This is a very famous red wine in Portugal, and many says it is the best red wine from Alentejo. Only produced in selected years and disappears quickly after release. Produced by Cartuxa, Evora, Alentejo. The best Alentejo red wine I have tasted, by far!
Very heavy bottle. Decanted 2.5 hrs. Deep dark red with a distinct touch of brown. Fabulous deep aroma of minerals, oak and berries in a nice balance. Different style than the usual very fruity Alentejo-aroma. Full body. Powerful, super smooth, a “big” wine dominated by fruit. Nice balance fruit / acidity. Well structured. Slightly dry. This wine is containing so much that it is difficult to describe it all. 96 pts.

That sounds like a special wine for a special occasion. Happy Anniversary indeed, Rune.
I found a fact sheet for the 2010 vintage, and that year was 55% Trincadeira and 45% Aragonez, and aged 18 months in 3000L oak vats. It's even a DOC wine, as opposed to the Alentejano that I see so often. http://www.cartuxa.pt/app_files/pera-manca_red_2010.pdf
It's great to see serious wine being made in the Alentejo.
