1976 Porto Rocha Colheita Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

From a 750ml bottle. Amber brown, only slightly darker than the eiswein (1989 Grans-Fassian Riesling) tasted on the same evening. This pour has a little haze. While the first 8 or so were more clear, the last couple had more sediment than this one. Aroma of sweet candy brittle, with some fruit hiding in the background. There is some warmth and leaf spice too, then more brown sugar. Warmth shows up in the mouth, but is well integrated with sweet fruit flavors. Citrus and caramel up front, cherry in the finish, and maybe a little bubblegum. Later … Not as nice as earlier, when I probably would have given it at least 94 points--more like 91 now. (But I'd put 94 in the database, because this was rockin' earlier.)

This was served at a Boulder Wine Meetup event that I hosted, and was WOTN by far amongst the group.
