NV Kopke 40 Year Old Tawny Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Tasted blind. Bottled 2007. Very clear with only a light faint haze. Rich creamy caramel sweet aroma, along with some medical sanitizing alcohol. There is also dried orange, tangering, and a little bay leaf. Of the first three wines tasted (after 50 Year Old Yalumba and 1958 Krohn Colheita), this seems the most subtle aromatically, with a more integrated composition, not giving up its components, but maybe there is a little crème brûlée. Slight and lightly sweet, this seems the least interesting in the mouth, and more like a 20 year old tawny. There is some oxidized fruit, sweet candied apricot. 88 points.
