Recommended shops in the DC area?

Post by Jeremy R »

I'm just getting into port, really enjoying it, and was hoping someone here might be able to point me in the direction of a good shop in my area. Downtown DC or Northern Virginia are both convenient and would love to know if anyone has any go to spots.

I've only purchased one bottle so far, a 2007 LBV Taylor Fladgate (really enjoyed it especially with some aged gouda or some nice chocolate) that I picked up at Wegman's but I'd love some advice on what to try next. I'll happily go back to Wegman's for my next bottle, it is the best grocery store in the world, but wondered if there are any shops that specialize in port or have a nice selection.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Jeremy,
First [welcome.gif] to the Forum! Being on the left coast the only one I know of is McArthurs, here is their website (which is bassins, odd I know).

Hi Jeremy,

I am fairly close to you. MacArthur's is good, and occasionally you can get good deals from them. Schneider's of Capitol Hill is pretty good, also. Otherwise, Total Wine can offer some good deals on younger Ports. But, the best selection in the region is in my cellar :winebath: If you are ever near Clarksville, Maryland let me know. Might be able to pull a bottle.

Thanks for the warm welcome and the suggestions! You know you're in a good place when on your first post you get an invitation to someone's home for some fine port! I'm going to try and take you up on the offer.

I'll check out Macarthurs and Schneiders and see what they've got; I'm thinking I'll probably try and tawny from the store just for something new in the next week or so. I think they've got Taylor Fladgate, Dow's, and Graham at various ages.

Thanks again!
