1985 Dow's Vintage Port

Post by Thomas V »

Date: 04/03/2016

Place: The WineCompany in Copenhagen

Condition: Served at around 17 degrees Celsius, bottled in 2016

Color: Dark center with a brown & orange rim. Starting to increase in transparency. In a transformation phase color-wise

Nose: Floral notes. Macerated black berries and forest fruits.

Note: Medium body and well incorporated spirits. This still has great acidity and vibrant fruit flavours being 30 years old. Great balance in this port and some complexity with the red berry flavours taking on some spicy notes. Still lots of tannins and grip left and I am sure it is a long way from peaking. If I had one myself I would be saving it for another 10-15+ years. This is a truly great port which I enjoyed quite a lot.

Info: This was part of a tasting session with Gustavo Devesas. Time for making elaborate taste notes was scarce.

Score: 92+ points
