Glenn, I should say, finding a Dow's 64 in the States, would be as getting John Wayne live on '60 minutes'
As Thomas said, come to Denmark.... I will consider throwing an ancient Niepoort Colheita in the pack...what about a Dow's 1964 for starters and and old Niepoort VV at the main course?

We should totally plan for a tasting or two in Denmark a year a bunch of you Muricans are going to Porto/Douro. Then you can swing by on the way in or home. Perhaps 1 day with rubies and 1 with tawnies.Glenn E. wrote:Ah, if only I could simply fly to Denmark any time I wanted to!Allan Engelsted Laurents wrote:As Thomas said, come to Denmark.... 2007 Q. d Noval Singel Harvest Unfiltered LBV...only $23 so just had to take one. Odd B&M store---lots and lots of Carvalhas and Ventozuelo products, and no major brands to speak of beyond a ruby reserve.
Any Port in a storm!

A distributor/rep might have pitched them a good deal to take a big set of each at a discount to fill out the category in the store.John M. wrote:2007 Q. d Noval Singel Harvest Unfiltered LBV...only $23 so just had to take one. I do like the Noval LBVs, hopefully it shows nicely for you!

You are probably right---just very odd. I've had both in LBV form---Ventozuelo is OK, Carvalhas I did not like at all.Bradley Bogdan wrote:A distributor/rep might have pitched them a good deal to take a big set of each at a discount to fill out the category in the store.John M. wrote:2007 Q. d Noval Singel Harvest Unfiltered LBV...only $23 so just had to take one. Burmester has Allways been able to surprise and to create exciting Ports.
Normally when I find old selected ports, they have been aging in casks. But theese 1934 vintage ports, where bottled in 1936 and decanted in 1945.

Pick up these the 2 Graham's from Peter Skov at the Port Fair this Saturday. When I got home I found one of them to have had some seepage. Peter without any problem offered to switch it out for another.
With 10 minutes left of the fair and me being slightly inebriated after having tasted 23 different ports I made an impulse purchase after seeing a "day special offer" for Portal 2011 vintages at 22 USD a piece. Just couldn't help myself and actually proud I didn't go bananza with all those great ports for sale. Portal had like the 2000, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011 on sale for the same price and a lot of people were getting out their credit cards.

I'd go for that totally sober.Thomas V wrote:With 10 minutes left of the fair and me being slightly inebriated after having tasted 23 different ports I made an impulse purchase after seeing a "day special offer" for Portal 2011 vintages at 22 USD a piece.
Re: What Port(s) have you purchased this week?
It was a great price. Perhaps I should have bought a case, but I really want to buy some 2013 Vesuvio so need to save up for that. My friend that was there in the early seating missed the offer. When I mentioned it to him he got quite upset. Well that suits him well, he forgot to mention to me that a grocery shop had offer for 2011 Offley Boa Vista vintage at around 29 USD a pop just recently.Eric Menchen wrote:I'd go for that totally sober.Thomas V wrote:With 10 minutes left of the fair and me being slightly inebriated after having tasted 23 different ports I made an impulse purchase after seeing a "day special offer" for Portal 2011 vintages at 22 USD a piece.

Were you able to try any 2013 VPs at the fair? If so, any standouts?

I tried these:A dschus wrote:Were you able to try any 2013 VPs at the fair? If so, any standouts?
2013 Quinta do Vesuvio - 93+ pts
2013 Quinta do Javali - 89 pts
2013 Vasques de Carvalho - 89 pts
2013 Dow's Senhora da Ribiera - 90 pts (Better than the 2012 I tasted the day before)
The stand out buy a mile was the Vesuvio. My notes are not very elaborate being at a fair and all. But this was such a elegant and smooth vintage. Amazing fragrance and depth of flavour. I am going to buy a case myself.

Thank you for the heads up! They are still for sale at 24$/btl at www.skovgaardvine.dk, which there weren't last time I took a 18 btl haul from them, so now I got myself a case of 2011 too :)Thomas V wrote: I made an impulse purchase after seeing a "day special offer" for Portal 2011 vintages at 22 USD a piece.
