1970 Graham's vintage port

Post by Rune EG »

Purchased three bottles at Norwegian auction autumn 2015. This was the first of the three. Bottle appeared in excellent condition. Capsule was fully intact and cork was easy to open with a Durand.

Very little sediments. Decanted 5.5 hrs. This 46 year old vintage port was still dark red with only a touch of brown. Impressive to hold the fruit that well. Aroma of smoked meat, berries and then some oak in the background. Full body. Powerful and elegant. First there is a lot of sweet berries showing immediately, nice oak and some minerals. Then there is a combination of berries / oak / raisins / lovely strong tannins which makes it all a well-structured port. Nice balance acidity/sweetness. The acidity is working so well that this vintage port appears more “fresh” than most vintage ports of that age. Impressive colour, taste and consistency. 95 pts.
