TN: 2012 Maria Mora Enamorada (Magnum Carlos Lucas) Alentejo red

Post by Rune EG »

Decanted 2.5 hrs (will probably benefit an hour longer), which is needed. Very dark red colour with tiny light rim. Interesting aroma which is full of berries and oak, plus some minerals. Full body. Powerful and quite elegant. At start it is a relatively «big wine» and especially when the tannins are coming on full scale. Terroir and schist/minerals have a central position in this wine. This wine is well-structured and also has a well-balanced acidity/sweetness. A demanding wine which needs meat to accompany when consuming. Medium long aftertaste. 92 pts.

We had the distinct pleasure of having Carlos Lucas who makes (or is the consulting winemaker) for all the wines in the Magnum portfolio, join us for a long night of wine comparisons over dinner at DOP during the Port Harvest Tour. A very funny man with a wry sense of humor and extreme talent for producing fine wines from a distinctive cross section of regions. We've visited several wineries that he is involved with and so far, I have yet to find a single weak link in the armor. He produces entry level and upmarket wines with fine QPRs.
