One of my New Years resolutions for 2018 is to open more VPs during the year and not saving them for an undefined special occasion that will never occur.
Thus my best friend was joining for dinner this past Wednesday and he like all sorts of port. So I went straight to the wine fridge and drew out a 2007 Quinta do Portal that I purchased this past February at at Danish port wine fair for the magnificent sum of 19 USD.
Straight off the bat it had a very nice floral scent with violets and great many dark fruits. Very pleasant. On the palate it is well rounded all ready at this point just 10 years down the road. A bit surprising. The tannins are still lingering but ever so subdued by the sweetness and the primary fruit. The after taste does not linger on the tongue for long and it lacks stamina for the long haul. In my humble opinion a well made vintage port, meant to drink within the next 10-15 years and be enjoyed without big fuss. We enjoyed it.
88 points.
