TN: 2016 Quinta Maria Izabel Vinha da Princesa Branco Douro white

Post by Rune EG »

The vines are more than 80 years old. Rabigato, Codega, Verdelho and Malvasia Fina are the grapes. Dirk Niepoort is Oenology consultant. Quinta Maria Izabel is located fairly close to Niepoort’s Quinta da Napoles.

Decanted 30 minutes. Minerals in the aroma with a touch of fruit and an element of something smoked. Medium to full body. Powerful, elegant, fresh, a lot of fruit. Well-structured and well-balanced acidity/sweetness. Nice tannins and minerals in a well-integrated way. Medium length aftertaste. 93 pts.

A very good white indeed. I like their whites a bit more than reds at this point. But they’re really doing some nice things overall and improving yearly. A producer to watch for sure.

And very nice folks!!
