TN: 2014 Quinta Maria Izabel Vinha da Princesa Tinto Douro red

Post by Rune EG »

Dirk Niepoort is oenology consultant. Vines are 80+ years old, and are located at abt 300 - 400 m altitude. Grapes are a mix of Tinta Amarela and Tinta Roriz. Quite heavy bottle. Sealed top of the bottle.
Decanted 4.5 hrs (5 hrs for next bottle). Deep dark red with a light rim. Pleasant aroma of oak and minerals, and with berries in the background. Full body. Powerful, elegant, nice tannins, well-structured Douro red with a good acidity/sweetness-balance. Acidity is distinct, but in an acceptable way. Medium length aftertaste (aftertaste a bit weak in style). 92 pts.
