1980 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Post by Glenn E. »

This was the 2nd bottle opened from a case (2 x OWC 6-packs) purchased from J.J. Buckley. 6.5 hour decant which was fine, but probably should have been 8 hours for optimum presentation.

Color: Dark, prune-like color. Mostly red/garnet but with a violet undertone. Opaque in the center of the glass only.

Nose: Faint, sweet tomato, boysenberry, minerals / wet stone. Maybe some faint blackberry.

Palate: Rich, luscious, good tannins, green note early in the finish. Blackberry, black currant, stone fruits. Very faint hint of mint.

Score: 94 points. A wonderful wine. Presented as very slightly younger than the 1983 Graham - slightly fruitier, but not as ripe and round. A shame that the brand has been retired.
