1945 Niepoort Vintage Port
I bought this bottle last year at auction for a good price. Bottle looked really nice and filling level was perfect. A week ago this bottle started leaking a little bit, so it was time to open it. Special port is usually matched to a special occasion, but the port or the occasion can overshadow the other. So I decided to open this port with my parents on a normal Saturday evening.
Decanted for 2,5 hours, which was spot on. Lost quite a bit of its pigment/colour, but the power is still there. Immediately after opening this bottle you can smell its potential.
I am not the best taster and writer, like Roy is, but I’ll give it a go.
On the nose you smell the age (a bit like a hay barn) with powerful luscious red fruit. In the mouth the port is really well balanced, round and extremely concentrated. We tasted ripe plums and figs, and a hint flavours you can find in a nice old tawny port.
The aftertaste was long and made me drink another sip. Little sips were enough to enjoy this powerful port the best.
An amazing port and experience. Hard to rate a port like this, but I think 98/100.

That's a beautiful looking Port and the bottle is very cool as well. It sounds like it was a great experience all the way around.

Sounds tremendous and a very difficult port to find in the States.
