What Ports R U guys drinking for the last weekend of April?
Already 1/3 of the year has flown by and before we know it the summer will be upon us. While we still have some cool weather around, I am going to dig into my cellar this weekend and break out some bottles to enjoy. I'll let you know after I have a look around. In the meantime, do you have any plans to break out anything special?

I will let you know as soon as I get to San Fransisco on Sunday, co-incidentally the day after my birthday, to see what is available to be massacred whilest "on the road."Roy Hersh wrote:Already 1/3 of the year has flown by and before we know it the summer will be upon us. I suspect a bottle from the '70s - to try to meet the 'demands' of your weekend tasting Roy... Plus I haven't had anything older than 1980 (Gould Campbell in a 375, quite disappointing) I am excited to try something at the proper age for VP!

what ports r u guys drinking
i'm actually enjoying a glass of 83 cockburns as i type. the red sox have just defeated the hated yankees for the 4th time in a row, were 6 1/2 games up on them. roy, hopefully they'll still be in the race by the time you get back from your trip!
its been decanted for 16 hours so far. the tannins haven't quite integrated yet, although its a lovely glass of port, i think i'll give it more time in the decanter and finish it tomorrow night after dinner.
i'm just happy it wasn't corked, the last 2 bottles of 83 cockburns were.

The weekend started off poorly with a server that went down at work... I had to repair it prior to getting an actual start on my weekend.
Now that I am finished the repairs, I am relaxing and browsing through back-pages on the forum with a glass of Barros LBV (1999) in hand. A proper TN just will not happen tonight, so I'll summarize it with:
not overly strong but good, a solid LBV, although a tad on the pricey side. One which I will revisit again, and with pleasure I am sure, but not as often as a less expensive LBV. Cherry and berry flavours, beginning to weaken in its second night. A tad more spirity on day 2 than one. Optimal drinking window for this was likely immediate - 7 hours. After that I noticed the fruit and body breaking down and the alcohol becoming more prominent.
I recently picked up a half case of Noval 2000 LBV which is a bit of a better port, and the price was good as it had been placed on the discount shelf. Bonus for me!
As far as the rest of the weekend... I'm going to treat myself on Sunday. I'm traveling to the US - the 2nd land of free-flowing and readily-available old Port! My birthday is Saturday, but I am hosting a poker tournament that evening with 29 of my closest friends (and enemies - I am not particular about who I take money from
) While some may bring a bottle or two, I doubt very much we will get into them properly during the game. Afterwards however....
(and it depends if the cards fall properly or not for me! If they do not, I will likely go visit one of the three unfortunate souls currently on Death Row for an early execution!):!:

After tonight's incredible lineup, the gang of pour from WA and CA will be back to offer up their impressions.
So far four of us drank:
1955 Quinta do Noval
1955 Sandeman
1963 Fonseca
1967 Martinez
1967 Vargellas
Tonight there will be 8-10 well aged Colheitas to report on. A nice farewell to April and it is nice to get together with a wide assortment of FTLOP folks (8 of us tonight).

Paul,
the first major port purchase I made (more than one or two bottles) was the 1986 Bomfim. Still got one bottle left, so please be sure to post a TN on it, I'd love to hear how the 88 stands up.
