Has anyone already tried this red from Douro? If so, what did you think of it?
What drinking-window would you expect?
For less than 7 EUR/9,50$/4,75 GBP a must-have?
Cheers
Michael

No, but on my recent trip, I tried all levels of white Vinho Verde and Alvarinho wines made by Aveleda. I really think they make some of the best VV in the country and they are especially food friendly. I must admit I have never had any of their red wines though.

We had the wine over 2 days. Here are my brief interim impressions for you Port- and Douro- maniacs. Allways greedy, I popped the cork directly after the delivery. No waiting and agonizing thoughts!
Ruby to cherry-red colour. Intensive warm flavours of cherry in the nose. Also on the palate intensive and warm cherry-aroma, some light echos of spices, pretty smooth, not very concentrated . Alcohol of 13% well intergrated, not clumsy at all. Imo the wine lacks a bit of tannins, it could have more bite. Therefore, I prefer to drink it slightly chilled. On day 2, the wine seemed to be better, with a bit more bite. Overall I would rate it in a range of 87-88. In some weeks it could deserve a higher score.
6,20 EUR should be a decent price for this pleasant wine, screaming for a steak. The wine should be easily available in UK and United States.

Did you taste them at the estate Roy? I was invited to go there last year but unfortunately I could not have a date that suit them. It is just an amazing place to get a rest and taste some wine from the pictures I've seen.Roy Hersh wrote:No, but on my recent trip, I tried all levels of white Vinho Verde and Alvarinho wines made by Aveleda. I agree too that they make enjoyable VV and some QPR red wines. I did have the Chamraba on a few occasions and its a light but easy to drink wine. Nothing that is an expression of the Douro but a good wine in its price range to compete with Aussies and other low price wine.
