1977 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Derek T. »

Cork out in one piece. A great fruity smell whilst decanting. Lots of sediment and the clour was lighter and more brown than I was expecting. An initial taste on decanting wasn't pleasant. Extremely hot and a strange bitter taste.

No note taken at the time so this bit is from memory. A very nice spicy nose. Beautifully thick and chewy in the mouth. The heat had integrated well and now just a warming glow in a nice long finish.

Has now lost some weight and bt is still a very attractive wine, but not the star it was last night.

I would say that from the showing of this bottle the Dow 1977 is in the zone for drinking now and I find it difficult to see any reason why it would improve further.
