I just loved this thought from Scott. I've never even thought to try it, but next time I take my wife to see a movie, I'll try to sneak in some vintage port and a half bottle of champagne plus the Riedel glass, of course. I love the image of you sitting there watching the latest Bond move with a glass of VP in hand.

For me, I normally drink 1-2 glasses of port - usually a VP, SQVP or LBV - a night, every night when I am at home. I drink port instead of table wine and will happily have a glass of VP as an accompaniment to my evening meal.

Three nights a week, typically. I have a standing "date" with my wife for dinner at our favorite restaurant on Wednesdays and Sundays. After dinner I almost always have a glass or two of port: usually 10s, 20s, tawny-reserve, or colhietas. It used to be always Nimrod, but it's no longer produced.

Mondays, we have a gang over to watch movies and usually drink Prosecco or champaigne during the movie and a bottle or two from my declining supply of Nimrod afterwards.
Peter,
I hate to edit this post, but linking to and promoting a company in which you are a stockholder ... and has NOTHING to do with Port, is beyond the scope of this specific area of the Forum. If you want to post that with the same disclaimer in the "Other Discussions" Forum area, we would have zero issue with that.
Respectfully,
Roy

I probably average 4-5 times a week. Typically it's just one glass (okay, sometimes two) in the evening while my wife and I are watching TV before bed, but I also really enjoy going to tastings and so find as many of those as I can in the Seattle area.

Lately i'm sad to say not much. Work has been super busy with long hours, so I just haven't had time to do much drinking at all. That will all change in about 3 days when I arrive at Heathrow to meet some other :ftlop: 'ers and friends for our flight to the Douro. I think we are going to try and break the Harvest Tour record of bottles consumed...or in reality, make a dare good effort see how close we can come :yumyum: :winebath: :drunk: :winepour:

I'll probably have limited internet, so no wild and crazy parties while dad's away

I am very pleased to see this topic resurface after a long period of dormancy. I hope others will go back in our archives and pull out others with great relevance that some of our newer members can enjoy and add their impressions and wisdom.

Andy,

Have a great time enjoying a slew of great Port!

Fortunately, I am free while you are gone and will softly moderate in your absentia. Enjoy the vacation, you deserve it! :winepour:

Can't say I am drinking port that often, it's just that when I do drink port, I drink a lot of it... This weekend was fairly light 3 bottles for about 3 people. Almost all of us had drank too much the night before, so we weren't in our best form, but I was in the best form of the three. I had to get up at 3:45 AM on that day to start my smoker.

This weekend was the first time both corks ('70 Noval and '85 Fonseca) came out with my crappy cork screw with no issues! Did not feel like using the tongs as I wanted to use the bottles. Down to one decanter

You are ALL a bunch of light weights.

I know somone who was questioned by his doctor how much Port he consumed each year and his response, "Oh, about a pipe per year, of course." (That's 720 bottles). So stop bragging until you can even wrap your brain around that feat, no less your liver!

Yes, in response to the 3rd degree questioning I received, I sent his dossier over to the IVDP.

All I can say is this year may be the year I match that feat. With 2 portugal trips and some other Port gatherings, I'll sure put a dent in reaching that pipe-per-year goal!

With the line up we have already, just of stuff I know about, we'll come pretty darn close to the number of bottles consumed on this trip. The numbers already are staggering. I've never had a discussion that "we've got too many bottles and we need to cut back" before...words I thought I'd never utter

I can't match Dick Yeatman's feat of drinking a pipe a year, and on average I probably drink about 2-3 bottles a week but I did smile when I saw the influence this bad website has had on me.

In the year before I met Roy, I drank from 44 different bottles of port.
Then the next year I went on the Harvest Trip and drank from 153 different bottles of port with an average age of 19 years.
The following year was Roy's fiftieth birthday party and I drank from 157 different bottles, but the average age was 39 years!
Then things started to go wild, with a couple of very deep verticals of Croft and Cockburn - 278 different bottles were tasted, with an average age of 36 years.
And so far this year, I have tasted 225 different bottles with an average age of 26 years - and that includes the 2007 cask samples that I have had!!!

As soon as I saw the Subject Line on this one, I still remember my responses from almost two years ago.

I have cut my consumption somewhat over the past couple of months, being that I am trying to LOSE some of the weight gained while in my awkward "injured" phase and therefore, not in serious competition of any sort years. This year, I have finally managed to remain injury-free for a whole three months, have been working out regularly and have lost a few inches... still a lot more to go, but a great start. Large port consumption is not good for such goals of athleticism, but I still manage to consume a small galss every couple nights. On certain nights, like tonight, a "small nightcap" has turned into >half a bottle. C'est la vie!

I am still working at finding the balance between [d_training.gif] and [cheers.gif] but am still dedicated to both!!! ;)

Todd,

The question begs an answer: Which would you rather lift, the weights or the glass?

There's a simple solution, really: lift weights 3 oz at a time! [yahoo.gif] :winepour: [d_training.gif]

And the more you work out the easier those ounces are to lift [d_training.gif]

I have to jump to Roy's defense here. It's all Frederick's fault.

I met Fred on http://www.thevintageportsite.co.uk about 2 years before Roy started FTLOP. When I first met Fred online I was asking questions about the 6 bottles of port I owned. In the past 3 years I have shared many, if not most, of the bottles that Alex B mentions above, have been to Oporto and the Douro about 8 times and own 500+ bottles of VP.

There is no doubt about it. This sickness started in Quebeq, not Seattle [help.gif] [dance2.gif] [welcome.gif]
