My father was in town yesterday evening to take me to a tailgate party at the local football (Canaqdian/American football, not ACTUAL football (i.e. Soccer to North Americans) While we enjoyed ourselves immensely, after the depressing loss to our arch-rival team, the Calgary Stampeders, we needed some cheering up. We did so with the last remians of the following bottle that I had stashed in my liquor cabinet for just such an occasion: Offley Baron of Forrester 30 Year Old Tawny Port [NV - No Vintage]
The below TN was written 2007.08.14 but still held true after a month of being opened. It was still showing wonderfully!
Surprisingly, still a lot of faded ruby colour in this Port after an average of 30 years in wood. The expected tawny orange and light brown notes are present, but there is definitely more red present than I expected. Edit to original TN to add the following statement: I have had 10 yr old Tawnies that have had much less red than this Port showed, even after a month or more of being open.
The nose is sweet, with no alcohol to speak of present. Warm vanilla, cedar and lightly toasted oak are present.
All in all, a perfect end to the night!
