Hi,
I am still a beginner is this matter and this will be my 1st TN in this forum. For that and because the 1st time it's always special and in Sweden I cannot afford to buy VP so often, I decide to taste the Port that we were drinking while we were eating the cake in my wedding, a fabulous S. Leonardo Vintage 2000 from a "small" producer from Quinta do Mourão.
After decantation, the wine presents dark red colour, closed with incense wild fruits aroma. In the mouth, notes of dried cherry, raspeberries and vanilla. Full body, very smooth, intense and persistent flavour. Tannins with quality and well connected, giving me the impression that this wine has the ability of aging inside the bottle for a few decades. I am looking forward to try it again in a couple of years or even decades and see if I am right.

Hello David,
Welcome & Congratulations on your wedding.
Nice tasting notes from a very rare VP producer. I have quite a few 2000 VP, but haven't wanted to open them yet, thinking that I'd be wasting a great bottle by opening too early. I'm glad this Port turned out so well for you. Maybe over this Christmas I'll try one of mine.
Best Regards,
Bill

David,
If you have the opportunity, the 20, 30, and 40 year old tawnys from S. Leonardo are absolutely stunning and worth every penny.

Bill, thanks for your post. I like it and due to the good tannins I am looking forward to try it in a few years, I expect a good evolution. If you would like to try a young VP I recommend you Quinta de Baldias 2003... it's a wine that is so good as young that I don't feel to wait with it.
Andy, actually I have tried from the same producer all of his assortment, 10 years, 20 years, 30 years and 40 years, and I agree with you... it worth every penny. I have still left 30 years (I’ll open in October when I'll be a father and I'll do a tasting not) and the 40 years (I’ll open in Christmas). After that... I have to wait again to go to Portugal to buy more. Can you find the Ports of this producer in USA?

David,
No, I was able to meet the winemaker in Oporto last October. We tried the three tawny's and I was totally blown away by them.
