1995 Smith Woodhouse Madalena Vintage Port

Post by Robert O. »

Decanted at 55 degrees.

+3.5 hours -- Juicy, fruity, chocolate, licorice, smooth and velvety, a bit acidic, slightly astringent tannins.

+4.5 hours -- tannins have smoothed out a bit but still very acidic.

+29 hours -- still showing nicely with chocolate and berries being the dominant flavors. Slightly hot finish.

This is has a lot of potential but I'd give it another 2 years before trying again. For the price point, this is tough to beat.[/b]

BTW, I'd rate this 90/100

I tasted this in October and was really impressed. I was not expecting such quality. It did completly surpass the 94 served beside. I gave this 17/20+. Somwhere in the 91-93 range maybe with potential to get more.

I think it will get better, too, Fredrick. I plan to buy more

I agree that this is a lovely VP. I had first had drank a few about 3 year ago and then bought up all I could find. I think it's best days are 5 to 10 years out but it is drinking nicely now.

The 1988 is one of the best QPR ports I have tasted this year

I have spent the last three days with the 2005 version and it is no slouch either. TN will be in next week's newsletter article on 2005 VP Forecast: Part deux.
