I had to give this some serious thought. There are so many fine LBVs out there. In order of preference here are my top 3:

1. Quinta do Noval

2. Quinta do Crasto

3. Quinta do Javali (tied with) Niepoort

I haven't come across the Javali or Crasto LBV in my little part of the planet.
They must be unfiltered if you have them up there w/ Neipoort?

Quinta Vale Dona Maria LBV Port
Niepoort LBV

To be honest there are only a few producers I tasted the LBV off. But since I didnt see Quinta Vale Dona Maria LBV Port mentioned yet I wanted to post here anyway because I really like this one.

I’m interested in your choice of Quinta do Crasto as one of your three favourite LBVs. Never having had this before, I bought a bottle of the 2001 (bottled 2007) the other day. With only a little decanting time, I found it to be quite light-bodied tho’ rich in colour. A very pronounced figgy taste which I rather enjoyed. After 24 hours, it had developed more complexity, but was still a young port. On the basis of the single acquaintance it seems an atypical LBV, albeit very enjoyable.
Is your choice based upon a particular vintage or a number of them? Is the 2001 not typical or is this what you like about it?
I have a little left to taste this evening (48 hours)
