TN: 2002 Ramos Pinto Duas Quintas

TN: 2002 Duas Quintas by Ramos Pinto, Portugal ($11)

A very deep purple colour. Dark-berry nose, earthy, sugary. Medium body, short to medium, mildly spicy finish. Musky flavour, almost smoky, with some subdued berries. Not very flavourful at the outset and needed to decant for a couple hours before the berries woke up and brightened it up a bit. Once it opened up, some strawberry and raspberry were present. This one is very quaffable...bottles will go quickly even without decanting, though I would recommend giving it at least an hour to an hour and a half to breathe.

I haven't purchased a case of wine before, but this would be a definite candidate. Varietals used in this wine are Toriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Came across like a light Merlot almost, not nearly as dry, and not nearly as earthy.

Thanks for the TN. I bought a bottle not to long ago and have not had the opportunity to try it. So, it is good to hear of your positive experience with it. I look forward to trying mine sometime soon.

I've followed this wine since the 99, the best was clearly 2001 with 2000 not far behind. 2002 was ok but was having a bit alcool in the mouth and clearly less concentration than the previous but still a good wine for the price they are selling it!

I don't drink a lot of wine (comparatively), so if I did buy a case some would sit potentiall for a long while. How long do you all think this particular wine would keep in cellar?
