Advice wanted
Hello all,
i was giving the oppurtunity to buy the following wines:
(prices are in euro's, and taxes are already included)
Fonseca
1985 4fl 166.34
1977 6fl 209.40
1992 6fl 167.34
1998 3fl 128.38
1997 3fl 76.95
1995 3fl 87.99
1994 6fl 189.56
Taylors Vintage
1998 3fl 76.95
1995 3fl 92.56
Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage
1997 6fl 128.39
What do you think of the prices ? I am particulary interested in the 1977 Fonseca but isn't it overpriced ?
By the way, did fonseca and taylor released a 1998 vintage ?
Kind regards and thanks in advance,
Erik

Erik,
I think the easiest way to compare these prices is to use http://www.wine-searcher.com where you can look for each wine individually, priced in your own currency, and compare prices across the world.
Excuse my ignorance, but what are 3fl, 4fl and 6fl? Is this bottle size?
The prices do look high. The Taylor Vargellas 98 is available in the UK at around £20, about 27 Euro. I bought some 75cl bottles of Fonseca 85 direct from the Fonseca cellars in 2006 for £50 each so your 166 Euro (£120) looks extremely high unless it is a Magnum.

Derek,
fl(es) means bottle in dutch. So 6 fl is 6 bottles left.
You said you bought directly from the Fonseca cellars ? I guess you were there at the moment ? Or do they have a website somewhere where you can buy directly from their cellars.
I used wine-searcher and cellartracker.
I guess the prices are a bit high so i pass on these.
cheers

Eric,
I had to do a double take to see if you had recently moved to Canada!
Plan a vacation to go to the UK or US and stock up two full case shippers and your hotel/airfare will be virtually free, as mentioned.

The Fonseca 85 I bought was sold as "ex-cellars" by a UK broker named Fine & Rare Wines http://www.frw.co.uk - these were shipped to the UK in 2006 from the Fonseca cellar in VNG.
FRW still have these 6 packs on their wine list but they are no longer described as ex-cellars, possibly because they have now sat in London for 2 years so they could no longer use that description.
