1991 Dow Vintage Port

Post by Richard Henderson »

Upon opening , very dense, lots of heat but still approachable.

20 hours later more fruit , fennel seed, anise, ripe raspberries on the nose still a lot of heat but sort of like salsa, pleasantly spicey. Big mouth feel long finish. Cinnamon, fresh ground nutmeg , clove flavors, even a little mace. Concentrated.
I am not sure where the heat will be in a few years. Will it calm a bit?
Now it is has a hot peppermint nose. A taste like those cinnamon fireball candies.
A most interesting port, 92 points.

I almost opened one last night to take to a friends, but with only a couple hours notice I knew it would not be a wise choice. I'll try and open one later this month and give it a go, which I've been meaning to do for some time.

I last had it just under 2 years ago and I found it to be hot initially, then blowing off after about 22 hours. But I found it to be a mid-term Port that won't last the test of time.

I also found it interesting and gave it about the same score.
