Broadbent 1994 VP - $60

Post by Moses Botbol »

Found these at a local store for $60, possibly $50 if I can haggle them down. Anyone try this before? Is it the same exact port as Niepoort 94 VP?

Any TN's on it? Is it below the level of Niepoort, like Crusted Port is to VP?

Sounds like $60.00 may be too much for it then?

Moses,

If it has a declared vintage then it can't be like Crusted. Perhaps you should think of it in the same bracket as Niepoort Secundum VP?

Oh, and his father gave it a totally unbiased ***(*) rating in his well known book

I have had it many times. MANY.

In April 1997 it was first launched (first vintage of Broadbent VP was 1994) in Vancouver Canada. I was the first American to ever try it and the first journalist ever to write about it. I have been part of tasting panels doing a 1994 VP horizontal w/ 2 dozen producers, in SF back around 1998 or 1999. It showed very well that day and with 15 excellent palates present, it came out in the top bracket.

It is sound but somewhat simple, imo. Tasty but better for current consumption than long term drinking. $60 sounds like a lot to pay. I think you should be able to find them at $50. I know where there are some here for that price, but they won't ship to MA. I could help you in the transaction if you'd like. Let me know and I'd be glad to play intermediary if you are interested @ $50. I think with 6, I could get the tax included (absorbed).

Roy, thanks for the offer!

I'll try to shake them down to $50 or wait until they have a 20% off 6+ bottle sale buy a few. There's plenty of other port out there to buy, but having a few of the Broadbents would be nice. Did this port have a Wooden Case when shipped?

Yes, I still have the original wooden case. It was one of about 8 or 10 that I did not deconstruct when paneling my entire office with panels from OWC of Port about 8 years ago. Another great one not broken apart was my case of 1963 Nacional. My office walls are quite diverse with paneling going back to the 1935 vintage.
