1977 Gould Campbell Vintage Port

Post by SEAN C. »

The nose on the '77 Gould Campbell was floral and alcohol mixed with straw. The color in the glass was a very youthful dark plum and blood red. It was thin and light in the mouth and young tasting. The main flavors were grape, raisin, and cherry. A great Port with some decent aging potential and a respectable 18 second finish.

Sean,
How long was this decanted? I've had this a few times now and have always been blown away by it...next to the Taylors and Fonseca (when it shows well) I think this is one of the best of the 77's.

We did the usual about 1+ hour decanting and start drinking from there. I forget which other ports we had that night. I gave the GC 77, 91point

Thats a pretty short decant for that Port, wonder if that was to blame for its poor showing??

I am guess on the decant time. You've drank port with us, so you know our routine. I am sure we had the bottle 4 hours into decanting before it was finished. Any port scored above 90 by me, has to be good as I am the low baller when it comes to ratings...
