A big list of Ports in CA - worth the read

Post by Roy Hersh »

To order from these folks use this email address: ask@aabalat.com
They are tried and true and often have great provenance with their selections, but the prices can be a bit steep. Worth the look to see if you feel there are any bargains (like the 1958 Martinez ... is that a case price? : ) or that 1974 birth year wine by Warre, which actually does look modestly priced on this list. Greetings!

Give a special gift for Father's Day!

This year give a gift that makes Dad forget all his aches and pains - Port Wine. Not only is it a luxury to drink by itself, but it is also an excellent compliment to a nice cigar. This fortified wine is typically richer, sweeter, heavier, and possesses a higher alcohol content than most other wines. Port ages more gracefully than most wine, so you can find several older vintages that are just now reaching their peak. Consider buying a bottle from the year your Dad became a dad.

Aabalat has several Port wines in stock - see below for a sample of our Port inventory.

We recommend Niepoort for the tradition and history of the Port making, in addition to the richness, lush fruit intensity, and structure.

We also recommend Quinta do Noval, who made its reputation with the declaration of 1931 (arguably the most sensational Port of the 20th Century), and remains today a world renowned Port.

As always, please let us know of any wines you are looking for and we can help locate them for you. We also purchase well-stored fine wine collections from one bottle to hundreds of cases. Send lists with prices, condition, and storage history to offers@aabalat.com.

Sincerely,

Aabalat Fine & Rare Wines

Limited to stock available. Quantity and price subject to confirmation. Orders will be processed in the order received and paid.

Yeah, those are some pretty high prices for the US....and why I avoid that particular retailer.

Alex R.,

Where have you been buddy? I was wondering if Andy had you holed up somewhere in his basement, with Port feeding tubes keeping you alive. :salute:

The Noval/Nacional's sound like a good buy. Had the 85 the other week and it was splendid. $69 is not robbery for such a port. Most of the prices I would pass on...

Yeah, well that's not a good price for it. It's pretty easy to find the 1985 Warre in the $75-80 range in the US... no way I'd pay $108.89 for it.

Given the extortion you guys put up with from your government, I'd say that $96 CDN is probably a pretty good price. To me this particular Warre is on the softer, more elegant side of things, but if you like that style it's a very solid Port.

heh heh... we don't put up with it (or at least *I* don't. I brought back 3x bottles of the $85 Warre's purchased for (I believe) $75 from the NH Liquor Store when I was in Boston last. Funny thing is that the SAME store that I saw those $96C bottles of Warre's '85 in sold me their last bottle of it a year ago-ish for around $85. Infaltion you know!

You've probably found the gem of the bunch in that single bottle of '85 Noval. You are right - for $69, even I would pick that one up Moses! :)

Not to be insulting, but I wouldn't pay over $35 for the 1985 Noval. Definitely not my cup of tea and there are MANY far better VPs out there. Pleasant, but not worthy, imo. 85 points on my scale which is average at best.

Hmmm... I thought I had the '85 Noval a week ago, but it was really the '82; which was quite good. I think I have had the '85 Noval, so without being 100%, I'll go with your assessment. $69 for the '82 Noval is not bad...
