DOURO QPR

Post by Scott Kipping »

Quick tasting impressons of
QUINTO DO VALLADO 2003 $23.00;
CASA SANTOS LIMA ALFROCHEIRO 2004 $22.00;

I enjoyed a 2004 vintage of the Alfocheiro the other day at a friends house, so when I spotted the 2005 I grabbed one. Opened at the same time. The primary differences in both wines is the Vallado shows mostly red fruit while the Alfrocheiro exhibits mainly black fruit. Therefore the Vallado is a touch sweeter and I enjoyed it a little more. The Vallado hints at tasting like a dry port, which I love but usually only find in more expensive wines. I would purchase the Vallado again but pass on the 2005 Alfrocheiro.

Scott,

Thank you for the TN and impressions Kipper. I welcome you to FTLOP and am glad you've joined us to share your extensive knowledge of Douro wines! :clap:

Note to all:

Scott is a friend who lives north of Vancouver, BC and is a serious wine lover with lots of experience with Douro wines, which seem to be far more available (and often times at great prices) in that one Province in Canada, due to some very progressive buyers (for the BC area) and the fact that many of the Port and Douro players love to have a reason to visit that beautiful area! How was that for a run on sentence? :roll:
Ambition driven by passion, rather than money, is as strong an elixir as is Port. http://www.fortheloveofport.com

Thank you for the very kind words Roy. Washington state and Douro are two of my favourite regions.
The main reason why I like the Douro wines and why they are easily accesible in BC is the exposure that the Douro Boys bring. They are at the wine festival every year. They pour all their top end wines, and they are great guys
