1927 Graham's Vintage Port

I purchased the 1927 Graham knowing it had a good fill but signs of seepage through its cracked wax capsule. The first thing I noticed after opening the eighty-year-old Port was its strange smell. The scent was reminiscent of dill pickles and the color was a dark brick red and cloudy prune. It was at first a little hot on the palate but thankfully after about an hour, both the strange smell and the heat blew off. Apparently this bottle needed to be decanted for more than a half hour! On the palate it had a toffee and butterscotch flavor with a tiny bit of spice on the finish. The ’27 did not have the typical Graham sweetness but was still an excellent bottle once it opened up.
