Today i got this list from a guy not too far away from my home. I must admit, he has a nice collection, but oh boy....those prices. When i said something about those ridiculous high prices he got a little upset and said that i dont understand a bit from pricing. That maybe true, but even i can see that a burmester from 1980 is NOT worth EUR 1175

I just tried to buy a case of FONSECA 1985 VINTAGE from England for $52 per bottle, but someone beat me to it. Including shipping to the US by courier service it would have still only been $72 per bottle, which is cheaper than the $85 per bottle that I can easily find it for over here.

Extraordinary Port or not, his prices are insane.

Erik, actually just point him towards this thread. I've kept out of this until now as I rarely make negative comments about retail businesses although pricing can be wherever the sales manager or owner believe their customers are willing to pay.

However, given the arrogance of the uninformed, I'd send him a direct link to this thread and he'll realize how foolish he looks. I'd have loved to see your email response.

Uh... news to me. I'm almost positive that the IVdP doesn't have "official prices" for Port. It's not their raison d'etre.

But even so, those prices are so insane that they're higher than the per glass prices at the Solar do Vinho do Porto.

The IVDP does not have ANY involvement in the pricing of Ports in the marketplace. It never has and more than likely never will. You should "out" the name of this retailer, so others here can make sure to be on guard.
