Lisboa and Wineries

Post by Marco E. »

Bom Dia:

I will be spending two weeks near the end of June and early July in Lisbon for work and was thinking of trying to visit a winery on a Saturday or perhaps even a weekday depending on my schedule. I have been to Lisbon and Portugal many times and was wondering if anybody had any ideas of a winery that I could visit from Lisbon using public transportation. I am open to visiting any region (Ribatejo, Dão, Douro, Alentejo, Estermadura, etc.).

I know this might indeed be a challenge, however I am very uncomfortable driving overseas, thus renting a car is not an option.

I've already confirmed that the tasting schedule for ViniPortugal in Lisboa will be Vinho Verdes, Alentejo, and Setúbal. When I was last there in January a few weeks ago the options were Douro, Algarve, and Estremadura.

I've already started putting together my meal itinerary for Lisbon as well.

Melhores Cumprimentos,

M. Edward,

If you have the chance to visit Luis Pato and Esperao, I think you'll have seen two of the really great producers in the area you are looking for. If you want to head to the Setubal Peninsula, an hour from Lisboa, you can visit the great Moscatel producer, Jose Maria de Fonseca.
