2000 Magalhaes Vintage Port -- Quinta do Silval

Post by Luc Gauthier »

For starters , the fruit overshadows the mouthfeel .
Very fruity , blueberries I think .
No hint of alcohol at this point . ( 1 hour decant )
Very enjoyable however the finish is short .
After 6 hours , the finish is longer , the fruity taste is gone and the alcohol is very present .
17 / 20

5300 bottles were made , this was # 2148
Vintage avant jeunesse/or the other way around . . .

Sounds like it's faded or closing up a bit. As you probably know, this was spectacular a few years ago. I was trying to buy some of this the last time I was in Portugal, but it is now essentially unavailable.

The 2000 Vintage Port was the best they've ever made and I thought it was VERY solid, although 2007 will be the next chance they have to change that. They are a fine producer of LBV and some of their table wines are good. They have a wonderful young woman winemaker who is doing her best to raise the bar. I think the table wines are still a few vintage away from becoming something special, although they are certainly drinkable.

Glad to see you were able to get the 2000 Magalhaes VP up in your neck of the woods. I only have one bottle left of it and will let mine rest until 2020, when I do a huge 2000 VP horizontal with 3 dz. producers (or more) over a weekend.

Actualy Roy ,
I happened to be giving my brother a hand building my dads deck ( he lives close to the Ontario border ).
After a break , I decided to visit the local LCBO store .
As luck would have it , they had one bottle ( $79.00 )

Excellent. Today we revealed the 2007s in our lineup and I showed Glenn my remaining 2000 VP bottle. I can say the 2007 is every bit as good as that. Really impressive and built for the very long term Wow!

This Port is already on my list for a while. Price would be about 35 EUR here.
