NV Candido Douro (previously Qta. da Carolina)

Post by Ronald Wortel »

When Jerry Luper sold his Quinta da Carolina, there still were stocks of unbottled wine of recent vintages (kept in tank, under pressure, ready to be bottled when an order came in). The new owner made a blend of these wines (most likely 2003/2004/2005, but I'm not sure about that) and is now selling this under the name Candido. Very cheap too. In a store in Foz this was 9,25 euro.

What a surprise. This wine has a lovely freshness, and is packed with dark fruit, notably blackcurrant and blackberries. It's tight and tannic, and could easily age a couple of years. Very pure. Crazy QPR.

Apparently, there will be a 2007 Quinta da Carolina again, as the new owner decided to keep the name intact.
