1948 Bual Madeira - Top Foods in Redmond, WA

For those in this area, I was at Top Foods and they've got several bottles of wine in their locked cooler on closeout. The Bual, if I remember correctly, was at $148. They also have a coupon on their website for $5 off any $25 or higher single bottle of wine.

I picked up a bottle of 2000 Cockburn VP for $45.50 minus the $5 - about $44 after tax. They also had the Warre's 2000 at $42 along with Rocha and Kopke for $35 and I think $39. There were some others, but I didn't have time to take complete inventory.

Thought I'd give a heads-up just before I headed out for a short holiday vacation.

Steve - 2000 was a good year and you have a fine bottle of port. The only slight disadvantage is that many of the ports from the 2000 vintage are starting to go through their closed period so you may not be able to drink it at its peak for another decade or so.

That was pretty much the point. I'm still thinking about it, as they had only one bottle. However I do not have a wine fridge (yet), and after this summer's 100 degree temperatures, I don't know that I could do the bottle the justice it currently deserves. And, I'm not at all experienced with Madeira. Being that my parents are 1941 and 1944 vintages, had this been one of those it would have been gone on sight.

They had a few other VP's that I'm still thinking about. The coupon has since expired, and I started this thread as I was literally leaving the house to go out of state for Christmas (plane flew at 6:15AM on the 22nd). I just figured it should be out there for those who may be interested. Also, they had several other closeout Ports along with other wines that I do not have enough familiarity with to comment on. I could have spent an hour flicking away at my iPhone to get a feel for what was really a closeout deal. I'm still rather new to VP's - the Symington tasting at Pete's was really my first in-depth experience. But I figure I'm due to pick some up if the price is right.

I've got the rest of the week off, and it's quite possible that I'll find myself in their cooler again.

Just to update, I went by Top Foods today to pick up some groceries, and I saw the price had risen to $154. However, they have a "buy 4 bottles of any wine and get 10% off" sale. That would bring it down to below $140. And no... still didn't buy it. I just wish it were a year of significance in my family.
