2000 Dow's Vintage Port

Post by Otto Nieminen »

The scent had a delectable whiff of tobacco and damp earth, much plums and figs. The palate had soft tannins, relatively high acid and moderate sweetness. The aftertaste was fairly long. This wine is very stylish and harmonious. Very good, indeed.

Well balanced, exquisite port. Just lovely on the tongue, complex with good fruit and tannin combo--slightly bitter aftertaste. Had this with my Port Club to an overall ranking of 7.9, which for our scale is high.

3/29/10 edit: The 7.9 is on a 10 point scale--for a 20 point it is more of an 18 (well over one std. deviation from the mean).

John,
Glad you enjoyed this baby of a VP. As you found out this is a stunning, albeit very young, Port that will probably outlive most of us.
