Picked this out of a friends cellar. Unpretentious bottle which I appreciate. Popped and poured.
Colour: A beautiful dark garnet red. Wow a wine that is not purple.
Nose: Because of no decanting time there was very little on the nose, mostly dominated by VA and alcohol.
Palate: Very nice mouthfeel, light to medium tannins, perfect acidity. Midpalate, juicy black and red fruit, turns to black liquorice, coffee and smoky oak.
Conclusion: This is very good 30-40.00 cdn wine. I did not know who made this wine until I searched for a thread for this wine. I'll never forget the first time I met Christiano. I only wanted to taste his top wine. His english wasn't very good back then, 10 yrs ago. So he would shake his head and point to the other wines, one of which was white, I would shake my head and point to his farthest red on my right, this happened several times. So he just poured the white in a new glass and handed it to me smiling. It was one of the worst whites I had ever tasted, similar to Retsina, and I like Retsina. That was my introduction to the wines of Quinta do Vale Dona Marie.

Scott,
Ouch! That was actually in 2001 when Germany/Portugal were both featured that year.
Regards to Bernadette!
