1968 Quevedo Colheita Port

Post by Eric Menchen »

Surprisingly (to me) red, but still a tawny in color; fairly cloudy. Aroma showed some warmth and faint dried spice, and some fruit, perhaps cherry. Spice and warmth in the mouth, then dried fruit developing. Medium finish. Later I noticed some floral aroma, and more fruit that was even fresh tasting, not dried; fresh fig and orange. Yummy.

Since I was born in 1968 and this was a special bottle for which I sincerely thank Oscar for sharing, I wanted this to be incredibly outstanding. It was very enjoyable, but not as stellar as I had hoped. I think I might have even preferred the 1975 Quevedo Colheita from the previous night, but it is hard to say since they weren't tasted side-by-side in a neutral setting. Maybe I had had too much food and other wine before tasting this. Still, a wonderful bottle. 93 points.

Thanks for sharing Oscar! :thanks:

I have had this five times, although I've only posted two of the notes so far. It is odd that I have had some bottles show amazingly well while others left me with a similar impression as you (Eric), very good but not great. Typically, I am in the 92-95 point range FWIW. I have not yet tried the 1975 version but am glad to hear you had fun at Andy's LA Offline and had a chance to meet the charismatic Mr. Quevedo. :winepour:
