Decanted about 13 hours by the time we started in on this. The pale ruby color is more advanced in age than previous bottles. The palate had a touch more heat and lighter strawberries as well. Still a very pleasant bottle with its sweet light strawberries and medium finish, but this bottle was more advanced and simpler than previous ones. There was a little left over and I drank it the next night with no noticeable changes.

Thanks for the tasting note! I've noticed quite a bit of bottle variation in 1970 Royal Oporto, but it seems that you tasted one of the better ones.

Actually, of the three bottles of this I've had so far this was the weakest. Glenn on the other hand, seems to have gotten some duff bottles.Marc J. wrote:Thanks for the tasting note! I don't think mine were bad bottles, I think I'm just not as generous as you (and Roy) when it comes to older Ports. The ones I've had have all been good, but I'm not sure I would call them very good and they certainly weren't outstanding. Good, to me, rates 80-84. Very good would be 85-89. Excellent would be in the 90-93 range.Andy Velebil wrote:Actually, of the three bottles of this I've had so far this was the weakest. Off the top of my head I think I've rated my bottles 82, 85, and 83. Nothing to complain about, but not really anything to brag about either.

I have had it once and it was simple sweet and easy drinking. Hardly a blockbuster of the vintage but an enjoyable bottle to not fuss about and drink.
Awesome looking bottle though
