TN: 2003 Fonseca Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 6 hours - From half bottle. Deep red in colour, centre almost - but not quite - opaque. Very open and inviting nose, blueberries but with a sweet strawberry jam underneath. Quite minty from the alcohol. Initially, there is pure balance in the mouth with nothing dominating between the sweet fruit, the tannins and the acidity. Work in the mouth eventually makes the tannins fade back a little to reveal the sweet blackcurrant core of the wine. This is a huge wine, but with typical Fonseca lovely balance. The aftertaste is sweet and jammy in a pleasant way. This is an extremely good port, perhaps showing not quite so well today as is the Taylor. 92 points
