1963 Martinez Vintage Port

Post by Al B. »

Decant: 3 hours - Decanted from a pale glass bottle of heavy sediment. A light reddish-brown colour, very clear in the centre. Some leather and red licorice on the nose, pleasant but not overwhelming. Smooth entry; some bitter tobacco shows through a strong cranberry core; plenty of burnt sugar to balance out the searing acidity. Quite a complex wine, with plenty going on but not great balance. The immediate aftertaste is dominated by the alcohol, but is then followed by a long finish of bitter quince and cranberry. If you like your port dry and acidic, then this is a good choice. If you like your port mellow and sweet then on this showing this is not one for you. 83 points
