TN: 1970 Niepoort Vintage Port

Decant: 6 hours - Pale colour, the palest of all the 1970 ports shown at the evening session of the horizontal tasting. A dark orange centre but a rim so pale it almost turned green. A nose of milky coffee and burnt rubber, really not pleasant. Sweet and sugary in the mouth, bitterness all over the palate. This is not much more than weak sugar water. The aftertaste is much better, but is dominated by burnt sugar which lingers a long time but is one-dimensional. Very disappointing. 84 points
