Decant: 2½ hours - Bottled by Justerini & Brooks in a three part moulded bottle. The seal was simply marked "Justerini & Brooks, 1934 Port" but the cork was clearly branded "Quinta do Noval 1934 Justerini & Brooks". Decanted cleanly off the sediment from a bottle with a very top shoulder fill.
Slightly darker than the Taylor 1960 shown alongside, clear centre but coloured well into the rim. Marzipan all over the nose, strange mushroom scents - like the small of fresh-cut small mushrooms with pink gills. The mushroom flavours carried over into the mouth, dominating the initial impact. With air, this evolves to allow some sweetness to show through. The wine may have been corked, although both the other drinkers disagreed. The aftertaste is hot and unstructured although it does have a decent length. This is a poor wine, falling apart and too tainted to be very enjoyable - not the reputation that this wine has. I can't believe that this is a representative bottle. 76 points
